Castiglione del Lago in Umbria, Italy is a fortress town sitting on the edge of Lago Trasimeno. It was an island on the lake at one point in its history. The fabulous fortress (Rocca) gives a hint of the old battles to gain strategic control over the lake. It has withstood a number of sieges and Leonardo da Vinci even came up from Rome to study the fortifications because it was considered such a strong example of a fortress. Castiglione del Lago is very popular with tourists, the main street is lined with delicatessens and local produce can be purchased to take home as souvenirs. My images reflect the history and magic of the town.
